Mary Aschieris grew up in northern California. She fell in love with sports at a young age after enrolling in gymnastics and dance classes. Mary began competition and eventually trained under renowned Romanian choreographer, Geza Pozar, known for his work with Nadia Comaneci. She competed on the national level for many years, eventually placing 1st on uneven bars and 6th all around at the junior olympics. As a result, she became one of the top female high school recruits and signed with USC. While at USC, Mary competed all-around in gymnastics as well as receiving ballet training under former German prima ballerina, Uta Graf-Apostle. After graduating with a BS in economics, Mary moved to the San Diego area and created a mobile gymnastics program for children, 'Gym-Kids', in 1989. In 2004, Gym-Kids expanded to included its' home base, Rock 'n Tumble — a children's gym. Given her background and active lifestyle it is no wonder that when Pure Barre made its way to San Diego, Mary instantly fell in love with the technique! Mary loves to spend downtime with husband, Mike, and their three active boys... Alec, Ian & Owen.
